Pregnancy Update | Less Than 1 Month

Monday marked the start of the 1 month countdown to my due date! I mean, how crazy is that? It honestly feels like yesterday that I was having the Gender Reveal Party and here we are, in October! I am beyond excited for her arrival. I have to admit though, I feel really positive about the imminent birth, however, I think it's only natural to be worried as well because you really are entering the unknown with labour. But I've been trying to maintain positive with my hypnobirthing techniques and reinforcing the fact that I can do this and I will!

Weekend Musings

This weekend was a lovely end to September as I've been getting organised in preparation for October, which is set to be a very busy month indeed.

The Lowdown: What I'm Loving

I can't believe I'm already writing another post from this new series! Where does time go?! This month has been a whirlwind, from doing the odd bit of work teaching here and there, to finishing my Master's dissertation; as well as getting ready for the arrival of our baby girl(!) I can't believe how fast time has passed us by. Needless to say, I am so, so excited for what October has to offer, and of course, with each day that passes by, Ben and I are edging closer to finally getting to meet our little bundle of love. So, you may ask, what are the things that have really captured my attention and inspired me this month? Well...

Pregnancy Update | My Birth Plan

Two weeks ago, in my series, 'Weekend Musings', I spoke about how I had an appointment with a consultant about my birth plan, whether or not I was due to be having a caesarian section. I have thought all the way through my pregnancy, when it came to this issue, that no matter the outcome of the consultant's guidance, I needed to do what was best for both me and our baby girl.

Weekend Musings

This weekend I felt as though I was a real social butterfly as I spent a lot of my time catching up with friends and family which was so lovely. I really enjoyed taking some time for myself, away from writing my Master's dissertation. However, I have to admit, I am really enjoying the whole process of this thesis and can see myself wanting to pursue researching once I have completed this Master's. I think that something I would find particularly interesting is going through the Philosophy route and writing a thesis on some of the most philosophically challenging issues: the problem of evil or the existence of God.

Anyway, back to what I did this weekend. Let's begin, shall we?!

Pregnancy Update | Stretch Marks

Way back when I was writing my blog post for my 'Pregnancy Update | 3rd Trimester', I inserted a photo which included a rather large bottle of BioOil. I thought that it would be important, for mums-to-be reading this, or even women who have/haven't had children to talk about stretch marks. When I initially found out that I was pregnant, I worried about the possibility of getting stretch marks on obvious places over my body. I wasn't worried about what other people would think, no, I was more worried about saying goodbye to my pre-pregnancy smooth, uninterrupted skin. I know it seems completely and utterly irrational to even say that, but I think it is important to be honest about the other side of pregnancy that lots of people don't talk about.

This Autumn What I Can't Wait For | Top 10

It literally feels like yesterday that I was writing my Weekend Musings blog post about how the summer was in full swing. And yes, I am aware that technically it is still considered to be summer in the UK. However, as September has rolled around ever-so-quickly, I can't help but feel full of excitement and optimism at the thought of Autumn.

Weekend Musings

This weekend has been especially relaxing as I've taken things much slower, ensuring that I'm not pushing myself to do too many tasks around the house (as told to do so by my midwife). Instead I've been busy getting something very, very exciting prepared and have enjoyed every single minute of it. This blog post may therefore seem quite cryptic as I don't want to reveal what exactly it is that I've been busy doing...

Interior Edit | Study Mood Board

As our home is coming towards the end of its renovation journey, after 3 long years, I am now able to start planning and decorating new rooms in the house. This has to be my favourite part of a renovation!

So, as our temporary office, which was located in the spare bedroom, has now turned into a nursery; I need to start planning for a space where my MacBook and iMac can call home…

I absolutely love Pinterest and I have to say, I think I may be a tad obsessed with it! Needless to say, I have curated my very own mood board of office inspiration. (I actually have two office pin boards - but who’s counting?)

Firstly, I love the idea of have a playful desk area, with memories pinned up onto a garland, in a beautifully retro polaroid style. I also love the idea of the shelves for storage purposes. I will be up-cycling my desk which doesn’t have much storage in it so I need to be creative with how I store all of my files and bric-brac. Aldi used to sell some gorgeous stationary ware but I’m sure that I’ll find some minimalistic-looking boxes to organise my crap.

Pregnancy Update | Less Than 2 Months

Saturday 1st September marked the start of the 2 month countdown to my due date. I know that many pregnancies, especially first-time pregnancies, end up running past the due date, but I can't believe how quickly it is approaching! I am so, so excited. So, what is there to say about the less than 2 month mark?

Gardening | Researching Plants

One of the main things that I will always do before I invest in any type of plant is to do thorough research.

Weekend Musings

This weekend was intended, according to our To Do list, to be productive. Ben and I had our ambitions set on a busy Friday night, painting our new living room and treating ourselves to take out pizza for our hard efforts. In reality, as soon as Ben got back from work, we had a nap and Ben continued to sleep until 9pm! So, by the time he woke up, it was too late to start painting and so we just had a quick tea and then went back to bed.

My Favourite City

Last Thursday me and my brother ventured into Manchester, our favourite city, for a day of shopping. We caught the train into Manchester in the morning, having a good old chin-wag and catch up. I had an awful lot of things on my shopping list as I am currently in the middle of getting my hospital bag ready. (I will do a post soon on my hospital bag and what I'm packing.)

Pregnancy Update | Third Trimester

This week marks a real milestone in my pregnancy, I am well and truly in the third trimester! So I thought it was only right to do an update on the second trimester.

Weekend Musings

Over the weekend Ben and I continued to crack on with working on our house. Last weekend Ben started the wood panelling in the hallway. I finally finished off painting and varnishing the kitchen shelves and doors. The reason I say finally is because it has literally taken me such a long time to do. As Ben handmade the kitchen, I wanted to ensure that I did my very best with the painting side of it so that it looks flawless.

Blog Update

Good morning from the sunny North West of England! On Wednesday I decided to take the plunge and rename my blog, along with renaming the URL. For the past 6 years I have blogged my life, musings and passions on 'And Kate', a blog which really represented who I was growing up. However, as I feel that I am starting a new chapter in my life, as a mummy, in November 2018, I felt that it was necessary to rename the blog to suit my next journey.

Kate's Kitchen | Pear Pie

After recently devouring a delicious lemon and vanilla tart at Ben's parents house, I was inspired to create my own pie earlier in the week. Pear is a fruit that I literally used to be obsessed with - for some bizarre reason! So I thought it would only be right if I rekindled my love for the voluptuous fruit by baking a pie for Ben and I to enjoy throughout the week.

Weekend Musings

It honestly seems as though this amazing weather is never going to stop. Or at least that what us Brits are all hoping. It's so typical of us to complain of the weather when it is too cold/windy/rainy, but as soon as the sun shines and the temperature thermometer displays anything above 25 degrees celsius; we literally don't know what to do with ourselves. But in true British style, this weekend me and Ben truly made the most of it.

A New Chapter

Over the past 2+ months, Ben and I have been overjoyed at the fact that our little family of three (including our pooch Harry) is expanding to a family of four with the arrival of our little Baby Moen in November this year. As of this moment, on a beautiful Bank Holiday Monday, I am 15 weeks pregnant and loving every minute of the second trimester. As some of my favourite vloggers have expressed in their pregnancy videos, the first trimester really is the most difficult (so far!). From sickness that continues throughout the day (trust me, it wasn't only in the morning) to food aversions meaning I literally couldn't eat anything apart from some toast or an apple. The dawning of the second trimester has meant that I have more energy, can enjoy my food again and haven't *fingers crossed* experienced any sickness.

Thinking Positively | Resolutions

The celebration of New Years seems like a distant memory, time has flown by with everybody going back to work and crashing back down to normality. Over the Christmas period, Ben and I were talking about how truly fantastic it was to be off work together, spending quality time at home. Both of us seemed to calm down as soon as we stepped into the house after finishing work on the 22nd December. Further into the Christmas period, we were talking about how it would be great to always be this chilled and relaxed. I know that I myself, when I'm teaching, have so many jobs to do each night after a day where all of my patience and selflessness has been drained. I am sure that I am not alone in thinking of how great it would be to have more spare time, more time to think, enjoy life and slow down from the fast-paced world we live in. There are multiple articles stating that juggling the work-life balance perfectly on an equilibrium is something that many 25-35 year olds struggle with. So, this begged the question for me and Ben, how can we take ownership of our lives, our free time and make time for the things we enjoy?

Provence Post Cards

France will always hold a special place in my heart. If you were a reader way, way, way back when I published 'French Update'Postcards from Carcassonne', you will know that I am practically a local to Provence. Well, not really, but you get the idea. To recap from 4 and 1/2 years ago, my family visit France every year and do a grand tour with the caravan of all the various stops along the way...

Living On A Building Site | Diaries

I thought that as I and Ben are currently undergoing major renovation works to our property, I would start a new series all about what life is like when living on a building site. As the timescale of the build is unknown and so far we have been in the thick of renovations since May 2017, I don't want to promise a weekly update on what is happening, purely because the building progress will fluctuate. However, something I will say, is that I intend to break this diaries series into phases, and thus today is the start; with 'phase one'.

Interior Series | Kitchen

For the past 2 years, ever since Ben and I moved into our home, we had been restlessly waiting for the right time to renovate and extend our home. The room that we wanted to work on the most was the kitchen. In our previous home, we had a modern, but basic kitchen. Nevertheless, it served its purpose and was easy to navigate round, meaning I was able to cook and bake with ease. This was not the case with our home that we are in now...

Kefalonia Post Cards

Way back when the sun was shining proudly and the days seemed to last an eternity, Ben and I were in Kefalonia, Greece. Amongst other tourist and holidaymakers, we set up camp in a beautiful self-catering hotel called 'Crystal Palace'. We stayed there for 2 whole weeks and throughout this time we grew to know the place very well. Kefalonia is such a beautiful place, and to be honest, anywhere you venture to amongst the many Greek islands; you never seem to be disappointed. There is something for everyone, whether you're seeking peace and quiet, sight-seeing, or a party town; Greece always delivers.

Blogging: Your Voice Does Matter

A little while ago I did a post all about my return to the blogosphere and what this re-energised love meant for me (Blogging With a Purpose). Ever since my return to blogging, writing and re-immersing myself in photography; I have been the happiest I have been in a while.
